wow, what a great intro and great idea.

Does anyone see a reintroduction of the Drow class? Morloks and Elo's? (sp?) I'm curious to see if there is going to be a "Surfacer class" or classes that fit into the those that live on the far reaches of the colonies

I think the equivalent DC has ever had to an underground race of DnD Drow-like Elves were the Groda from Erithorn's Might (the campaign we had before SoH) and they were all albino as opposed to black skinned.

Things might be different however, regarding how the new environment affects racial physiology of course. For all we know, the Dwarves might be albino too.

If not... Well, magic exists. And that can account for things either staying the same or being different, eh?  :)

Sometime after you have read this post and before the end of time.

Of course the old god they rediscovered is Eram, God of Hats.

. . .

OK, maybe not.

Nothing wrong with drow, just with those who've played them. :P

Hm. Triforce. Calling dips on a no-it's-not-him Jarlaxle concept character. Kekeke.

Hope you're really encouraging PCs picking a side and sticking to it rather than having the server filled with 'open minded and morally ambiguous characters' who're ready to reshape themselves depending on what the next DM interaction is.

I'm happy about the implication that you might be inching towards a less DM-reliant module, in the sense that there are static quests and an infrastructure that should promote PC hostility and player based campaigns, as opposed to the eternal 'We're in this together against the new-great-enemy-that-hardly-seems-different-than-the-previous-big-enemy'.

Just for clarification. I'm semi-pleased.

To be more (or potentially less) helpful, we'll let you know when we expect it to start.

When we do give a date, we intend for it to launch on that date.  There's few things more discouraging than a delay, and we don't want to get everyone's hopes up only to dash them.  There's been a lot of development done so far (DC5 has been in development, at least conceptually, for years) and it's all starting to come together, but the details are still being worked out.

So, once we know when we can launch it, you'll know as well.

See... we have been doing stuff :)

------------------------------------

DoN is going to redefine three things:
1) NWN2 Persistent Worlds
2) The word "EPIC"
3) Mushrooms

As stated earlier, we have taken great consideration of the feedback obtained during SoH and the long-term experiences of the staff and players over the 7? 8? years of DC's lifespan. Your points raised above were certainly typical of a large contribution of the information collated.

The post-cataclysm, underground setting is a big step for us since it's something completely different from our previous environments. It does afford us some advantages. On the technical side, interiors have far less of a footprint in memory than exteriors and require a smaller download, which in turn lets us use more of them. It's also something fresh and new to tackle for us. This will be in some respects DC's take on an Underdark environment (though there won't be any Drow per se :P ).
