Ask A Question (New ! Without tribute!)
« on: December 08, 2010, 02:17:38 pm »
Before I completely open this flood gate, I figured it would be a neat opportunity to get something development needs while giving something I'm sure the community wants in return.

So here's the deal. You may ask one (1) question about anything in the setting, if you send me five items in the toolset. They can be anything - clothes, weapons, trinkets, consumables, drinks at a inn, food, ect.

This topic will opened for questions without the item requirement soon enough, but for those who want a head start... Get to work!

Put all the items in a custom category : Your forum name
Give all your Resrefs a similar name : For example DynaSword1, DynaSword2, ect.

Kingofdreams and Scroogedriver have already submitted enough, so they may ask a question right from the get-go.

Thanks for the items. You can continue sending me them if you'd like, but they are no longer required to ask a question.

My tribute is chilling stylishly in your inbox as I write this and can be found in the following location once imported:

Category: Armour|Custom|Fruitomancer

My question has to do with a class that received rather harsh restrictions in Shores of Haldun: the Spirit Shaman. Is this class being made more open to different races in the Depths of Norhaven and is the interpretation of it's magic made open to player ideas and creativity? Furthermore, could you highlight in a very general sense where your average NPC 'Spirit Shaman' might find themselves in terms of the setting? Where do they fit in the society of the depths?

I am imagining the class deals with the spirit-based aspects of nature and have an interesting concept I would like to run with.

Plotting in the shadows: back full-time for DC 5.

What do Paladins look like in DC5, if you can bestow any hints?

Mechanically or thematically?

Ok, a question.....
I still havent decided what race I wanna play.
Id really like to know the different attribute boni and mali of the races,
especially those mentioned in "The Races, Part 2".

I dont actually make my char completely depended on the attributes, but it would help me decide and perfect my build :)

The class will be available to all races in DoN.

The interpretation of it's magic is going to be rather open, but it mostly deals with elementals, ghosts, and other nature-bound phenomena. Worshiping spirits, striking "deals" with elementals for power, that sort of thing.

Typical spirit shamans npcs... Coven potentials, Damihran spear sisters (cave amazons), superstitious Volsk, ect.

Depending on what type of society you're looking at. Gauthian folk might respect a shaman who has connections with earthen spirits, while not really caring for the rest. They'd really find a home in Darkthorn Den, of course. Well respected by their peers for helping the cause.

I've made a few items that have been sent in as well.

... My question is: WILL dragons be a playable race, and will the economy of the setting be based on fish scales?

Paladins are receiving a mechanical overhaul for DC5, though this might come after release as we are somewhat pressed for time. Some alignment restrictions will be lifted without deviating from the base class too much. Exact details as to class powers will come when that update is ready.

Setting wise they won't be tied to any specific group or organization. Their powers are somewhat separated from typical cleric work, as someone doesn't necessarily need to be a devout worshiper of the Gods to gain their power.

Typical paladins, NPC wise... Champions of Eloth, Gauthian Oathsworn, people who offer protection to others traveling the depths, ect.

I just made two batchs of items and exported them, which I then promptly imported to myself thus saving you the time, Dynamics.

So I have two questions!

1.) Will the Vermin Lord be referenced at all within the Setting, or is he gone for now?

2.) Have you finalized how the death system will work, and if so, how?

And here is a bonus one, if you feel up to it, of course.

3.) Can your friends dance? Because if they don't dance, then their no friends of mine. So is it safe to dance?

1) Vermin Lord is gone for DoN.

2) Death will work in a somewhat similar way to as it does in SoH, but with some minor modifications. Essence recharges at a much faster rate, but when you respawn you will lose a portion of your essence cap. This can be regenerated through an in-game through clerical NPC services, rare consumables, and DM events. If you hit zero essence cap you cannot respawn, you will HAVE to be raised by a spell at that point at significant cost to the caster.

3) Definitely. Though you have to do the safety dance before regular dancing, just to be sure.
