I can only assume these Aerendar dont sport the blue skin and green hair of servers past? :P

They aren't Aerendir.  They're like...gondola elves.

So the Aerendar, which are water-elves, have nothing to do with the Aerendir from EM, which were...water-elves?

If I had to guess, I'd say they're probably distant ancestors. If memory serves, Sorfela was home to all three, but they were different even before then. I also recall it being said somewhere that the Sorfelan elves mutated rapidly following the destruction of the forest.

That, and 2,000(?) years is an awful lot of time for our sea elves to turn blue.

I can concede that there might be some confusion over this point. Whilst Depths of Norhaven takes place within the same world and you may see themes that have been carried over from previous Dragoncoast servers, the events and people of Depths of Norhaven are separated from the events and people of those eras by hundreds of geographical miles and hundreds of years. People who have been fortunate enough to experience SoH and even earliar eras will occasionally find certain parts of the setting familiar, and marvel at how much those races, people and events have been warped by the passage of history.

Drawing a direct link, however, might be a mistake. The Aerendar in Depths of Norhaven are a very different people, with their own culture, uniqueness and their own mysteries to be experienced. Are these elves the direct descendants from the water-elves of EM fame? There are certainly similarities, but even were that the case life deep beneath the surface has wrought many consequences upon the surviving peoples. The best answer to your question, Sir, would be to look upon the Aerendar of DC5 with a fresh perspective.

Those who expect the Depths to align exactly with the lore and their experiences of previous eras may find themselves disappointed, as the world is always evolving and the team have many surprises up their sleeves!

I got the Much Ado About Nothing quote off the top of my head, but I had to look up the other one.

You've caught me!  :)

Honestly, time-line wise, this seems like it is either the eon before EM or perhaps another eon before that.

What with the one true god, the fish elves, and all that jazz. :P

Thankfully we can prove that it's only something like 450 years after DC4. Not even 500. It should have far more in common with SoH than anything else, especially given they're on the same continent and everyone is descended from the SoH nations.
The day Gorgewall graced your village was the most important day of your life. For me.. it was Tuesday.

Of course it has more in common with SoH. I don't mean to give the impression here that I hope the Aerendar are anything like the Aerendir (I don't even remember the Aerendir, except for Olanis Hightide, played by Heru). I was just wondering, out of pure curiosity, whether there was a common...anything between the Dar and Dir. I'm a history geek, so something like a DC Silmarillion is a wet dream to me.

I understand how frustrating it is for people from SoH to have to deal with nostalgics from a past era (especially for those of you who didn't play EM/IB/Beta). For this I apologize, and look forward to the Aerendar (and beards of Dwarves!) of the coming server. Come, DoN, come soon.

question: how do Aerendar and their elfyness mesh with Hope and its need for trade?

Considering that most Averan are former slaves to elven oppressors, their relationship would be a very uneasy one at best. Of course I would guess that it is up to how folks wants to role-play it. Some people can be more open-minded than others and can differientiate that these elves are different from the Drealen, and some will cling firmly in their belief that all elves are pointy-eared pricks that needs to be wipe off the realm of the living.

My interpretation of Avera's Hope is the majority of that place are former-slave but there are a minority of outcasts from other groups and that is what probably makes the Averan the most diverse in DoN. That's how I came to my reasoning of their views on Aerendar in the above paragraph.

Averya's Hope is not an elf-free society. Elven minorities live there as well.
