The Terrorist - How to make one - Help
« on: February 03, 2011, 07:23:52 am »
Trying to make a innocent looking character with a MR Hyde complex.

Think explosions and disguises.

Ideas up to level 10.

Ranger - access to set traps
Bard - access to perform - can use it for a perform acting feat rather than the usual perform music.
Sorcerer - fire and explosions

If i go

ranger 3 bard 3 sorcerer 4

Do i get enough skills to become good enough to perform and set traps?

Or should i go ranger 4 bard 6

???

You don't need bard levels to go incognito. If you're looking to screw up the system, though, check out the Wyrmblood lore.

There will be a new skill called disguise too, to help with pretending to be someone else.

You could try out rogue/sorcerer/arcane trickster

Disguise was actually cut from the list during the last week or so, mostly because after fooling around in-game we determined people will have enough things to invest skill-points as is.

Try just plain rogue or rogue/assassin. UMD is your friend!

Traditional bards are rebellious sort and make great freedom fighters and anarchists. If your character concept is the sort that would subtly turn the people against a evil ruler with insulting songs of their deeds and motives and ultimately rally the angry mob to overthrow goverment,  Bard might the way to go.

However if you're going for a evil, twisted and anti-social bombmaker you're probably better off with rogue levels.

I wouldn't go assassin with this guy because assassins are professional murderers and poisoners and it might not suit this sort of a char.

I'd go with Bard 7/rogue 3 and use feint to deal ok damage.  Pure bard for all bardic awesomeness. Or pure rogue or a rogue with shadow thief of Amn levels (or whatever it's called in DoN).
A good rule of the thumb: Don't multiclass if you don't have to. Base classes decrease your XP income and you can only have one PRC.

Use this site for thinking out your char's build. But beware, if you make your builds public, there will be 100 nerds in 5 mins commenting how bad it is and how their Bard/Frenzied berserker/dragon disciple/weapon master is better.  :toothy3:

Whoo! I love this show!

I would definitely go with rogue/sorc/arcane trickster for this if you wanna be as chaotic as possible. However, going with wizard doesn't screw up your skills as bad.

Wait a minute...

That would be the purview of the bluff skill.

That's what I was thinking too, Gothic.

I'd go for a standard arcane trickster build myself using wizard levels in order to benefit your rogue skills ranks, amount of spells and also allowing you to pump two attributes instead of three.

Invest in set trap (to reflect skills in sabotage), craft alchemy (to reflect skills in making explosives) and bluff (in case someone catches on and you have to lie your way out of the situation).

Of course, you could go full bard but then you'd have to account for the performance/musical angle of the bard in the concept and it's an extra consideration you may or may not want to focus on.

Bluff is more lying with words, where I thought perform acting be more along the lines of looking like someone else (disguising oneself)

Been trying out a few build attempts -

Bard/rogue
Bard/ranger

Even looked at ranger/bard/storm lord - For the spear/shurikens/darts

Think my problem is I am trying to do two things at once.

The charisma terrorist, who gets people on his side
And the violent terrorist who uses violence itself to make people see his way

Hmm. writing this out makes me think bard/rogue is the way to go.  For the stealth, traps and oration skills

Whats so good about the arcane trickster?

Bluff is not just words; but body language and more.

Bluff is not just words; but body language and more.

Yep, if you are good with words, but sweat like crazy and have shakey knees while you are lying, you will not convince anyone.

Perform for me is always stage acting, presenting yourself during a show, skill witih instruments, everything comparatively of course. Just because you don't have perform doesn't mean you can't play a stage acting character. Difference between a char with no perform, and one with high perform, would be that of an amateur hobby actor, and one having taken drama lessons, and doing it a lot, and in a professional manner.

Bluff is being able to trick someone successfully with words, intonation, mimic, and bodylangauge alltogether, though only used to enchance and support your own emotes and written lies.

Good example for, say, a female thief who is trying to trick the guard searching for her would be like *sits on the street, holding her knee with a pained wince, tears in the corners of her eyes, her dress dirtied, while she looks up at the guardsman with a barely constrained whimper of pain, and lifts her arm to point west of her* "He ran that way, officer, ran straight into and over me"  ; and then roll bluff to enchance your story, and give the other players an idea how convincing she presents herself.

Bad example would be: "He ran that way" *points* ; and then simply throwing out bluff.

That's how I see it at least. Your rolls ultimately only support your emotes and writing skills, and only if they are beliveable. Jumping from a 5 floor building, rolling tumble, and claiming you just roll over you shoulder and dart off like nothing happened is just  :-\, even with a skill of 100+
