FREQUENTLY ASKED CRAFTING QUESTIONS
Q: Where can I find crafting recipes?A: Crafting recipes will not be posted to players. We have left the system up to players to experiment and discover what works and what doesn't.
Q: I feel like there are too many possible combinations for crafting recipes, can we please have some hints or help?A: Yes absolutely. It took me six+ months to build the news crafting system from scratch - when I can pick up steam again I'll be writing up SoH BOOKS to put into the module to help with HINTS for how to craft in SoH. These books will help get the player into the right mindset for figuring out recipes. Most of the system is based off of logical combinations, patterns, and SOME trial and error.
For instance, if you want to use CRAFT WONDEROUS ITEMS feat to make a +1 STRENGTH Cape, the spell that is required should be fairly obvious. My aim was not to laugh at players trying to figure things out by making recipes obscure and hard to figure out. So, thinking about possible spells that enhance strength, one might try "BULL'S STRENGTH". Discovering Gems and Essence involved boils down to SOME trial and error. Once you learn a bit of the patterns involved it should be fairly intuitive and worth the effort sorting through the trial and error.
Regardless of what I believe to be fairly intuitive recipes, patterns and a reasonable amount of T&E - I'll still put in some books with hints - just please be patient
Q: What is the maximum amount of properties I can craft onto an item?A: The only crafting system that allows you to directly put properties onto items is CRAFT MAGICAL ARMS and ARMOR (CMAA for short). You are able to, with this feat, enchant properties onto an item. The MAXIMUM amount of properties allowed is 2.
Q: I'm having trouble finding components. Why is it so hard? Maybe this is unfair?A: Keep looking. Crafting components are the main control for the system. The rarity of some components such as GEMS for magical crafting and INGOTS for Craft Armor and Craft Weapon is what helps keep balance in SoH. We do not think this is unfair to players for things to be difficult to find. If powerful items were easy to craft, game balance would quickly be tipped. There problems that could arise from an unbalanced crafting system.... crafters could get an unfair advantage over all other characters because they could just MAKE their gear easily and build mountains of wealth with hardly any work. In addition, if everyone is running around with +4 gear (no offense to the MMORPG players) we are not a gear driven fantasy world where whoever has the best gear wins.
That being said, gear is intended to be somewhat difficult to find/craft. We WILL NOT change our mind about the rarity of GEMS or INGOTS, so please do not argue.
Q: Can you please change the weight of crafting components?A: I gave a lot of thought about these requests and decided no. If there are no draw-backs to the system at all this could create a problem. We are aware that some of the weights of components, like essence for instance, appear a little too high. In light of that, we made essence easy to find so that you should easily be able to acquire essence when you wish to work on crafting.
GEMS and INGOT weight will not change.
Q: Can I upgrade properties on items I've crafted?A: Yes, though only for the CRAFT MAGICAL ARMS AND ARMOR system. For details on how this system works, see below.
WARNING!!! Because of the scripts (which are the same as the Original Campaign) this works BOTH WAYS. Which means, if you upgrade a property, say from +1 Enhancement Bonus to +2 Enhancement bonus, the +1 EB will be replaced with the +2 EB property. IF YOU perform the recipe for +1 EB on an item that already has +2 EB, YOU WILL DOWNGRADE THE ITEM. Please, keep this in mind when going forward. This will not be changed any time soon, if at all. This is the design from OEI and it will remain in tact
