Utterances are learned automatically at each level, representing your character's expanding vocabulary of truenames. I've implemented utility feats for the Truenamer, which he gains in the course of his career that allow him to learn utterances of the appropriate lexicon. These are Learn Utterance (Lexicon of the Evolving Mind) at 1st level, Learn Utterance (Lexicon of the Crafted Tool) at 4th level, and Learn Utterance (Lexicon of the Perfected Map) at 8th level. You will have to use these feats manually to bring up the dialog that allows you to select utterances to learn. Each use lets you learn one utterance from the appropriate lexicon. If there are ever multiple utterances to learn of a certain lexicon at a given level (say, if you take Minor Utterance of the Evolving Mind or a feat like it that grants an extra utterance), you must use the ability multiple times. I may change this eventually so that it automatically brings up the dialog again if there are more utterances to learn.

Without trying to get too complicated, I'll try to explain a little bit more. These feats calculate a pool of utterances you can learn at any given level. Since you can substitute a lower-level utterance for a higher-level one when you learn an utterance, it doesn't matter the order which you learn them. For example, if I have just turned level 3, that means I can now learn 2nd-Level utterances of the Evolving Mind. If I've taken the feat Minor Utterance of the Evolving Mind this level (hypothetically - I don't know if it's actually possible requirement-wise), I can also learn an extra 1st-Level utterance. When I use my Learn Utterance feat, it will pop a list of all utterances I don't know of 2nd-Level and lower. I can either pick my 1st-Level utterance now, in which case the next time I use Learn Utterance it will display a list of all 2nd-Level utterances, or if I pick my 2nd-Level utterance first, then the next time I use Learn Utterance, it will display a reduced list of only 1st-Level utterances. I can of course, choose to pick two 1st-Level utterances in a row as well, if I want to forgo a 2nd level utterance. If you should for some reason forget to choose an utterance at one level, you can always use the Learn Utterance feat to "catch up." You can't break your character or get shorted on your utterance allowance by picking your utterances in the wrong order or at the wrong time.

It's pretty much fool-proof, but you should keep an eye on the level of the utterance you are choosing (it is displayed in the description pane when you click on it), since ALL utterances you don't know will be in the list. It won't warn you if, say, the max utterance level you can learn at the moment is 4th-Level and you're about to choose a 3rd-Level utterance. The highest level utterances you can learn at the moment will be placed at the TOP of the utterance list and the rest are sorted by descending level when you use the Learn Utterance ability so that there are no accidental lower-level utterance substitutions.

Personal truename research has been largely been replaced as far as its effects on combat go. It can still happen in the course of DM events or as part of your character's personal goals, but knowing someone's personal truename has no built-in combat advantage. The only exception to this is knowing your own perosnal truename, which every Truenamer does at level 1, and which grants you a +4 bonus to Truespeak checks on yourself.

Feats Known Personal Truename and Say My Name And I Am There allow you to choose truenames that represent your character and allow others to summon you, respectively. All naming conventions that apply to your normal name, as laid out in the house rules, also apply to the truenames you choose for your character. I'd suggest choosing truenames that are unique and sound similar to the truespeach you read in game.

I'm trusting people by putting in a teleport ability of this kind which is interesting but open to metagaming and other kinds of abuses. Please, don't let me down. I won't hesitate to remove class abilities from people who misuse these toys.
