[Rumor] Sick Refugees
« on: August 10, 2015, 11:16:40 PM »
A recently arrived group of Refugees have been notably sickly, causing concern within the camps about the possible spread of disease. For now, the current residents are keeping their distance and the new group has been forced to set up camp away from others.

The new group is quite poor, and lacking the ability to seek proper treatment, they have already resorted to begging.

((OOC: This is a player requested event, which will have an interactive portion on Saturday the 15th or Sunday the 16th, depending on player availability/interest. Exact time TBD))

((Can we get an estimate what time this is going to be set in? Just asking because it'll be impossible for me to commit to it if you're planning it for the american evening. Especially so if its on sunday.))

((Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I was planning sometime in the afternoon if nobody has a preference for timing, but given that there hasn't been any other responses to this thread, I might be looking at pushing the event out a little. Shooting for 8pm UTC either tomorrow or Sunday if players are around, which would be 4PM EST, otherwise I'll postpone it a bit.))

The old paladin Walter Gileston has expressed the desire to help the diseased, explaining that the diseased must be treated as the people that they are untill life no longer courses through them. He has been seen walking rather fearlessly in to the separated camp, with small amounts of food supplies bought with his own money that he mostly reserves for the children of the most needy families.

The old man appears to have a understanding of medical knowledge aswell and has offered advice on the importance of Cleanliness, especially when it comes to the washing of hands. The graying man also appears to be capable of lesser miracles that treat disease and has offered his prayers to whomever is willing to accept them.

Due to the assistance of Walter Gilestone and a small group of benevolent individuals, the Refugees seem to be in good health again... Or at least, the ones who were still alive.

Tragically, some of the sick Refugees who had opted to camp further away appear to have perished with only bones left behind, while others have gone missing entirely. Due to the over hunting of wildlife on the island, it seems likely starving Wolves are to blame.

Walter has been seen pushing a wheelbarrow full of cheap, sturdy clothes to the refugee camp, apparently intending them for those recovered from the ravages of the sickness as a measure of stopping it from spreading. Or so the old main claims.

For the past few days, he's spent an awfully lot of time in the refugee camps overall, making basic medical examinations and praying for those who accept his help, though sometimes it simply boils down to advice of seeing Father Piper, seeing as the knight is no priest, nor a doctor.  Regardless, the old paladin appears to be intent on being vigilant about the health of the refugees for a while.
